Joseph McGill
McGill’s
interest in film is an extension of his experience with music as storytelling –
having previously produced jazz and outsider music albums - and is also
connected to his academic work.
The
theme of this film project, his first, is that while we experience organizations
as normal routines, organizations are in fact powerful systems that we create
and recreate through our daily actions and decisions. This is a theme that
McGill pursued analytically in his research (Ph.D., Rutgers University) and
as a professor. In this film, the viewer
shares the experience of two people who become captives of a taken-for-granted,
everyday system.
But
more than anything, McGill finds visual storytelling a powerful method of
taking people away to another place, even if just for a little while.
